Emily Purcell

Emily Purcell is a Civil Litigator at Matlow Miller Cummins Thrasher LLP.

Born in Truro, Nova Scotia, and raised in the Waterloo Region, Emily has deep ties to communities across Ontario and Atlantic Canada. After several years living and working in Ottawa, she has returned to the region she grew up in.

Prior to entering private practice, Emily spent seven years working for the federal public service in the National Capital Region. This provided her with a strong foundation in policy, governance, and public accountability – perspectives that continue to inform her work as an advocate.

Emily earned her Bachelor of Arts in Criminology at Carleton University before pursuing her Juris Doctor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. She articled with both the federal government and our firm, providing her with a unique perspective shaped by experience in both the public and private spheres of legal practice.

Her approach brings a fresh dimension to advocacy, showing that effective litigation relies on preparation, clear communication, and understanding the people behind the case.

Emily enjoys supporting local businesses in the community and spending quality time with her family. She is proud to contribute to the Galt community she now calls home.
